The 1L Lexicon Challenge: Official Rules & Instructions
Welcome to the ultimate tournament of vocabulary precision. This contest is designed to sharpen your case-reading speed, elevate your classroom cold-calls, and build exam-ready vocabulary.
Weekly Contest Cadence
Monday at 8:00 AM: The weekly challenge link will go live right here on this page.
Wednesday at 11:00 PM: The Kahoot! challenge window closes automatically. No late entries are accepted.
Thursday at 10:00 AM: The weekly Top 10 Leaderboard will be published.
The Rules of Play
Personal Identifier: You must enter your personal identifier. The game will ask you to enter first name and last initial, but use your UA NetID instead. For example, if your email address is ewoods@arizona.edu, you would enter ewoods as your personal identifier. Anonymous names, inside jokes, or random initials will be automatically deleted from the roster and will not earn points.
Nickname: Choose a nickname that will maintain some level of anonymity. Here are a couple of formulas that will help you create a legal-themed nickname:
: [Legal Concept] + [Your Favorite Animal]
Examples: Tortoise Tort, Habeas Hippo, Subpoena Sloth, Alibi Alligator, Affi-david Duck
[Courtroom Role] + [Your Favorite Food]
Examples: Litigator Lasagna, Bailiff Burrito, Juror Jellybean, Paralegal Pizza
[Famous Case / Doctrine] + [Random Number]
Examples: Miranda 101, Palsgraf 45, Chevron 2026, Estoppel 07
One Attempt Per Week: You are permitted only one attempt at each weekly quiz. If our system detects duplicate entries from the same IP address or student name, only your first completed attempt will count toward your score.
No External Help: To keep the tournament fair, you may not look up definitions, use AI tools, or collaborate with classmates while the quiz is active.
How Points & Leaderboards Work
Accuracy + Speed: Kahoot! assigns points (up to 1,000 per question) based on whether you answer correctly and how fast you click.
Beat the Clock: You have 45 seconds per question. The faster you lock in the correct answer, the more points you secure.
The Semester Standings: Your points accumulate week-over-week. If you miss a week, you earn 0 points for that round, but you can still play in future weeks.
Prizes & Glory
The student with the highest cumulative point total at the end of Week 14 will be crowned the Lexicon Champion, winning ultimate bragging rights and their name engraved on The Lexicon Cup. First place will also receive a $100 Amazon gift certificate, and second place will win a $50 Visa gift card.
This week's challenge
Week 2: Contracts – Reaching an Agreement (Mutual Assent) (ends August 26)
Test your contract IQ: Can you spot the first step in making a contract? This round closes automatically on Wednesday at 11:00 PM.
